Occasionally, The Baseball Opinion will ask other baseball writers their input on a specific subject.  Their response will be available in our Over a Beer and Peanuts section.

Need some reasoning why a GM made a recent trade?  Don't know anything about the minor leaguers involved?  Want to know who came out the best in the trade (what sportscasters will not say)?  Then go to our Trade Bait section to read through the trade breakdowns.

2008 TEAM PREVIEWS

Each year you see sporting magazines try to provide in-depth analysis on each of the teams in baseball.  But those magazines don't cover the teams like we do here at Baseball Opinion.  Each team preview gives insight and unrestrained commentary on how the team will contend in the upcoming season.

Cinderella Wins the World Series
Cinderella just won the College World Series. In an impressive showing, the Fresno State Bulldogs have won the National Championship.
Rookies to Look For: Chris Lambert
Heading into this season, the Detroit Tigers’ starting rotation looked pretty formidable. But age, ineffectiveness, and injuries have ripped the rotation apart. The Tigers have lately tried some young pitching like Armando Galaraga out as replacements. The next pitcher that the Tigers may try could be Chris Lambert.
"Where are we Runnin'?"
After a brief look at the standings on ESPN.com today I couldn't help but think of a Lenny Kravitz song.
Mariners Manager John McLaren Fired
In what has become a major shakedown of the Mariners organization, the team has released Manager John McLaren.
Rookies to Look For: Jeff Niemann
Standing at 6’-9”, Jeff Niemann may look the most imposing of the Tampa Rays’ pitching prospects, but he is just one of many good looking hurlers in the Rays’ system.
Bill Bavasi Fired
The Mariners have officially let go of General Manager Bill Bavasi. This was something that had been rumored for some time now and was needed for even longer. His management of this team was ugly.
Rookies to Look For: David Purcey
David Purcey has already had a taste of the bigs, but will he have a future role with the the Blue Jays?
Over Spilled Milk: 2003 Draft - National League
With the annual MLB draft coming up soon I felt it would be good to look back on a previous draft. Essentially, most of the players that will be regulars in the majors will be up within five years of when they are drafted. So I decided to do a review of the 2003 draft.
2008 Rule 4 Draft
The annual Rule 4 Draft is here! Many of the names that you will never see in the majors will be picked today!
Over Spilled Milk: 2003 Draft - American League
With the annual MLB draft coming up soon I felt it would be good to look back on a previous draft. Essentially, most of the players that will be regulars in the majors will be up within five years of when they are drafted. So I decided to do a review of the 2003 draft.
Rookies to Look For: Joe Mather
Joe Mather was recently called up by the St. Louis Cardinals after they sent down struggling left fielder Chris Duncan. Can he stick?
Rookies to Look For: Cajun God of Baseball
Shortstop Reid Brignac was drafted in the second round of the 2004 draft and has steadily risen through the Rays’ farm system ever since.
Rookies to Look For: Clayton Kershaw
Ever since he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the seventh overall pick in the 2006 draft, he has been one of the team’s top prospects.
Trade Bait: Baek to the Padres
Finally some interesting trade business going on! On Wednesday, the San Diego Padres acquired Cha-Seung Baek from the Seattle Mariners. Ok, so interesting went out the door, but it’s still a trade to review.
Over Spilled Milk: Urbina for Ohka and Rundles
In the infancy of The Baseball Opinion, I reviewed a trade of the once-dominating reliever Ugueth Urbina from the then Montreal Expos to the Boston Red Sox.
Rookies to Look For: Jay Bruce
Going into this season, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce was looked at by many as the top prospect in all of baseball. Many even picked him as the favorite for the NL Rookie of the Year race.
Lester Fires No-Hitter
In an amazing story of recovery and resurrection, Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lester pitched a no-hitter on Monday night.
Slew of Long Term Contracts
What is this, signing young star players to long term contracts week?
Braun Gets Paid
Ryan Bruan, the 2007 NL Rookie of the Year, has been awarded the largest contract in history, the history of the Milwaukee Brewers that is.
This Just In: Ankiel has an Arm!
It's always been known that St. Louis Cardinals Outfielder Rick Ankiel has an arm, but last night solified that belief to any non-believers.
Zito Back in the Rotation
The San Francisco Giants are sending their team's biggest drain on their budget back into the rotation.
Changes in Seattle
The Seattle Mariners made a couple major changes to their club yesterday as they designated two for assignment and called up a couple of hard-hitting prospects.
Let's go see the Cubs at Tootsie Roll Park!
The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority is close to a deal to purchase Wrigley Field from the Tribune Company.  Part of the financing would come from the sale of the partial naming rights to Wrigley Field.
Granderson the Key?
Has anyone noticed that in the six games that Granderson has played since coming off the DL, that the Tigers are 4-2?
Dan Johnson Passes Through Waivers
Dan Johnson has made it through waivers for the Tampa Rays and will report to Triple-A.  Hello Sabean, you awake?!
Wayne Krivsky Fired
Wayne Krivsky was fired in a somewhat surprising move.  Was he any good as GM of the Reds?
Are Prince Fielder's Days Numbered?
Over the off-season Prince Fielder let it be known that he wasn't happy with his pre-arbitration raise.  Could he end up out of Milwaukee relatively soon?
Frank Thomas Released
Frank Thomas was released April 20th by the Toronto Blue Jays.  What does this mean for Thomas and the Jays?
