Here’s all the latest gossip and news about the Premier League, ahead of the new season due to begin on August 13:

Arsenal: Arsenal midfielder Mark Randall has joined Chesterfield on a one-year contract that will expire in June 2012. Randall, an Arsenal academy product, who has played in recent years on loan to clubs such as Burnley, MK Dons and Rotherham.

Aston Villa: Ashley Young has been signed by Manchester United, who acquired the Villa winger on a five-year contract, for a reported sum of 17 million pounds.

Blackburn: Striker Benjani is expected to stay on with the club after being given a new deal.

Bolton: The Wanderers are due to lose defender Gary Cahill, who could join Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City once his contract expires, this summer.

Chelsea: Villas-Boas has taken over as the new Chelsea boss after the exit of Carlo Ancelotti. Thirty-three year old Villas-Boas who managed Portuguese club Porto, last summer, won four trophies in his debut managerial season. Chelsea paid 13.3 million pounds to secure his release from Porto.

Everton: Defender captain Phil Neville is unlikely to retire for two more years, taking the advice of Toffees boss David Moyes who talked Neville out of contemplating retirement after he picked up a foot injury last season.

Fulham: Dutchman Martin Jol has taken over as Fulham’s manager following Mark Hughes’ resignation. The 55-year old Jol is no stranger to Fulham, a team he managed between 2004 and 2007, when he let them to successive fifth place finishes in the Premiership.

Liverpool: Manager Kenny Dalglish is not happy about the start date of the new Premiership season. The new season is due to begin on August 13, within 72 hours of the completion of a round of friendly internationals, in which several league players are likely to be involved. The start date would leave players with little time to travel back to play in the league, according to Dalglish.

Champions League Betting Odds 2011

Barca meet Arsenal at the Emirates and spread buyers of the Gunners’ win index will be looking for revenge after the Catalans knocked the Gunners out of the competition last year. Those spread enthusiasts looking to sell the Barca/Arsenal match supremacy may be aware that before last weekend the visitor’s had not conceded a goal in five matches – scoring 17 times. There will be concern for match supremacy sellers that the Gunners have never beaten their Spanish opposition in five meetings – producing three defeats and two draws.

Those looking to sell the visitor’s win index spread may have noted that Barca have not enjoyed as much European success on the road as they have done at the Nou Camp. When Barca beat Panathinaikos in the final group game, it was their first in six away outings and that will please sellers of the club’s win index.
Those football spread betting punters that enjoy a punt on the total goals market may have seen that Barcelona have scored ten times against Arsenal in their five meetings. The highest scoring game was in North London when the visitors ran out 4-2 winners in 1999, to the delight of goal buyers that evening. The Gunners’ performance in the group stages will also offer encouragement to goal buyers given they scored 14 times in their three home fixtures.

Total goal minute spread betting punters should take note that the last time these sides met at the Emirates, all four goals in the draw arrived in the second half – reaching 259 points.

Leo Messi scored four times in the most recent clash with Arsenal and that will delight those looking for a bet on his individual performance spread. His goal minutes for that particular game accumulated 188 points on the spread. The Argentine has six goals in six European matches this year.

Football Training and Fitness

Years ago players used to have a pint and a fag at half time, in the 1950?s and 60?s it was common for them to do so, and certain clubs even gave the players free cigarettes. Things have changed a lot since them days and nowadays its all about the fitness of a player. Being fit means working out, doing exercise and maintaining a healthy diet.

Fitness along with accuracy is the most important part of your game. Without it you will fail to succeed at the top level. Being able to run about a pitch for 90+ minutes is a tough task, using all sorts of muscles as you twist, turn and jump along the way. Look at the like of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, they constantly run up and down the football pitch for the duration and hardly ever break a swear, why? Because outside of the game they are training like mad, its their job. They will train all week practicing and developing their fitness.

To improve your fitness you should:

If not already doing so take up jogging/running, start light and increase it gradually along the way, aim to do this at least 3 times a week, jogging for around 10 to 20 minutes if possible

Look at what you are eating and drinking, its no good if you spend half your life at McDonald’s and drink lots of coffee!! Be hard on yourself and it will work in the long run. Try to eat three meals a day, and don’t skip breakfast, as you have heard a million times before, ‘its your most important meal of the day.’ And drink plenty of water, this will hydrate your body, I found drinking a glass or two of water before bed is a real good way to hydrate yourself and you will wake up feeling better in the morning. 70% of your muscle is made up from water, this is why you need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and don’t mistake hunger pains, they could be pains telling you to drink water instead.
